Advice to Writers by Jon Winokur

In the years that I have been on the internet, I have discovered that not many people like to write. There are more readers than writers.

For anyone who wants to write, whether as a profession or just for the fun or heck of it, you may want to get yourself a copy of the book Advice to Writers, compiled and edited by Jon Winokur. In the Philippines, I got my copy at National Book Store.

The book is a collection of funny and witty quotes, anecdotes, and advice from famous writers and other greats in the publishing world. Aspiring writers can pick up an idea or two from this book and it should encourage you to just keep writing no matter what. The quotes tackle a wide range of topics from: critics, to grammar and usage, to why you write.

This should be a welcome addition to any “writer’s” personal library. Here’s a sample quote from Cyril Connolly: “Better to write for yourself and have no public, than write for the public and have no self.”

Happy writing! Happy reading!
