Blogging with GreyMatter and Wordpress

If you do not know or are not familiar with the technical aspect of building a website, you can ask individuals who are familiar with that aspect to build you a site that uses either GreyMatter or Wordpress.

I write for several blogs and I use both. Grey Matter is more simple to use (less things to learn and remember) but sometimes, if there is a problem, you may not be able to upload your entry and you’ll have to start from scratch. I don’t think I’ve discovered how to save as you write. My husband always suggests that I just type out my entry in “word” and then just copy paste onto Grey Matter. That way, I’ll always have a back-up copy. Have been too lazy though to actually do it that way. You’ll also need to know some html if you want to put in a link, among other things.

Wordpress is more complicated to use — you’ll need to remember how to write a post, add a category, etc. It is easier to make links or format your text though as there are buttons which automatically do those functions. We’ve experienced some problems with the database though — and if you are not web-savvy, you may be at a loss as to what to do.

Still, it is good to try out various tools. Try both and see what works best for you. The more important thing is if you have something to share or say, just write. If you have the content, everything else should follow.
