Filipino Lesson 2: Parts of the Body

After learning to introduce one’s self, we move on to learning about Parts of the Body. This will come in several parts and for this particular lesson, we will focus on parts of the body from the chin up.

Here are some of the words our kids will need to learn:

Filipino Word: English Word/Equivalent

anit: scalp

buhok: hair

noo: forehead

kilay: eyebrow

pilikmata: eyelashes

mata: eyes

ilong: nose

pisngi: cheek

bibig: mouth

labi: lips

ngipin: teeth

dila: tongue

baba: chin

Here are some sentences that we can make with the above words:

Makati ang aking anit dahil sa balakubak.
My scalp is itchy due to dandruff.

Makintab at maitim ang iyong buhok.
Your hair is shiny and black.

Ang haba ng kanyang buhok.
Her hair is long.

Maiksi ang ating buhok.
Our hair is short.

Kulot na kulot ang inyong buhok.
Your (plural) hair is very curly.

Kapag malapad ang noo, matalino daw.
When your forehead is wide, that means that the person is intelligent.

Kinukrusan sa noo ang mga sanggol na binibinyagan.
We make the sign of the cross on the foreheads of babies who are baptized.

Maganda ang aking mukha.
My face is beautiful.

Sino ang kamukha mo?
Whom do you look like?

Naghilamos na ba siya ng mukha?
Did he wash his face already?

Makapal ang kanyang mga kilay.
Her eyebrows are bushy.

Inahit mo yata ang iyong mga kilay.
You look like you shaved your eyebrows.

Ang haba ng kanyang mga pilikmata.
Her eyelashes are long.

Singkit ang kanyang mga mata.
He is chinky-eyed.

Malabo ang mga mata ko kaya ako nagsasalamin.
My eyes are not clear that’s why I wear glasses.

Ano ang kulay ng kanyang mga mata?
What is the color of her eyes?

Pango ang ating mga ilong.
Our noses are flat.

Ang taba ng mga pisngi ng bata.
The child’s cheeks are chubby.

Namumula ang kanyang mga pisngi dahil malamig ang panahon.
Her cheeks are red/pink because of the cold weather.

Itikom mo nga ang iyong bibig.
Please shut your mouth.

Walang tigil ang kanyang bibig sa pagsasalita.
She talks non-stop.

Mapula ang iyong mga labi.
Your lips are red.

Nagsipilyo ka na ba ng ngipin?
Did you already brush your teeth?

Napaso ang aking dila sa mainit na sabaw.
I burned my tongue with the hot soup.

Mahaba ang baba ng mama.
The man has a long chin.

As you will see from the above sentences, the translation from Filipino to English is not direct nor word for word. Rather than focus on a literal translation, it is better to understand the meaning and express it in the best way possible.
