How to Teach Your Kids Tips (Part 3)

Here’s Part 3 of the things we picked up from the talk of Ms. Vicky Tantoco:

7. Talk about your child’s successes to other people in front of your child. – When our kids do well in school, parents, most often than not, brag about it. We tell the child’s grandparents, uncles and aunts. Most of the time, though, we do this privately and probably not within earshot of our child. Ms. Tantoco suggests that you talk about your child’s success with other people when your child is within hearing distance. This will send
a message to your child that you are proud of him or her.

8. Do something about a problematic situation early enough. – Do not wait until the last minute before doing something about an issue that needs resolving. Continuously monitor your child’s performance in school. If your child is having difficulty with a certain subject in school, talk to your child so you can help him resolve any problems. Talk to his teacher if necessary. A parent shouldn’t be surprised at the end of the year that his or her child gets a failing mark if such issues were addressed throughout the school year.

9. Support your child’s interests. - Different strokes for different folks. If you closely observe your child, you will be able to discover his or her talents and skills. Invest in your child’s talent. It may be helpful to talk to your child about his or her interests and help him or her set personal, academic, and life goals.
