Information Sources for Credit Rating in the Philippines (Part 2)
This is a continuation from yesterday’s entry. We now complete our list of sources of information that can be used to validate data given to us by companies which are obtaining a credit rating:
4. Research organizations: Industry, economic, and company data can be obtained from private companies and organizations specializing in such information. CIBI Information, Inc. is a business information company that can provide you with audited financial statements, business reports on companies and individuals, as well as negative reports (e.g. court cases, credit cards cancelled). The Institute for Development and Econometric Analysis, Inc. or IDEA is another institution, based in the University of the Philippines (state university) School of Economics, that can help you with your economic and industry studies.
5. Competitors, Suppliers, and Customers: To the extent possible, as analysts, you may wish to speak with major competitors, suppliers, and customers to gain a better understanding of the industry or business. Key here will be your network of contacts.
6. Industry Associations and Market Players: Some sectors or industries have their own industry groups so it would also be a good idea to touch base with them to discuss prospects and issues faced by their industry. It is also good to keep your ears close to the ground and talk to market participants to get hold of the latest news about companies and industries. As to rumors which may make the rounds of the market, it is best to discern and investigate first before giving these any serious weight.
Good luck with your research and with validating the information that you get for credit rating or credit evaluation purposes.

Hi Angelica -
Just happened to drop by this Site of yours. All the credit rating stuff actually made my head spin! Anyhow, just a suggestion which has nothing to do with the article: Perhaps it would be better to change the color of your byline from black to something else to make it more readable. Either that, or you have to trim the grass :=)!

Hi Al,
Thanks for dropping by. Nakaka-exorcist pala ang credit rating?=) Not at all, I guess my head would spin too if we had to talk buildings.
Thanks for the suggestion. I see what you mean. We’ll see what we can do. Hope all is well.
