Last Mother’s Day, I received several text messages to greet me Happy Mother’s Day. There were a few greetings which really showed how pervasive the influence of media and advertising is on our daily lives. Here are two:
“God could not be everywhere so He created mothers. Wa-is talaga si God! Happy Mother’s Day, ulirang ina!” — must have been written or circulated by the people from Unilever. “Wa-is” (which means wise) is the term usually used to refer to mothers who use Surf, a detergent produced by Unilever.
“Sa mga nanay na tumitingin samin ng 24/7, may unlimited na pagmamahal at pag-aaruga, Happy Mother’s Day. Salamat sa yo Nanay.” — must have been written by Sun Cellular and the telecommunication companies.
It’s interesting to see such text messages as they reveal the popular catchphrases for a certain time. We’ll stay tuned in 2007 and see what we come up with next year.
Advanced Happy Father’s Day!
