Most young people, these days, work for call centers. For one, the segment appears to be booming and of course, the starting pay is better than most other jobs. I also read somewhere that call center executives in the Philippines are the most highly-paid executives these days.
Just out of curiosity, I sent out an application for one such call center job opening. Although I did not pursue that application, the questions they asked and how they went about contacting me might be of help to those who are bent on pursuing a call center career.
Once you’ve applied for a call center position, they may give you a call first (which is what happened in my case). The person on the other end of the line stated that she was going to conduct a phone interview to assess my English language skills. (So, be prepared to speak in straight, relaxed English).
What are the questions that they asked?
1. What do you know about our company? (Make sure to research about the company before you send out your application so you are not caught flat-footed.)
2. What do you expect from the company?
3. What is your expected pay?
Depending on the nature of the job that you are applying for, the person conducting the phone interview, will also probably ask you a few details about your area of experience. In my case, some of the questions asked were about my exposure to credit risk; whether I was familiar with the use of accounting software; and whether I am using pivot tables and macros in excel.
The thing that attracted me to their ad was the opportunity for a one-month training abroad but then I found out that the position would need to take the graveyard shift (9pm to 6am the next day). The position services clients in the USA. Well, that’s not the lifestyle for me so I just requested them to put my application in their active file. I’ll just wait for a job which will require regular working hours.
So, if you wish to go for that call center job opportunity, brush up on your English and be quick to reply during phone interviews. Good luck!
