Study Tips to Remember
If you leave your kids alone, chances are, they’ll try to get away with as little studying as possible. That’s if they are normal kids. So, you may want to remind them about a few things as they do their schoolwork:
1. “Read” does not mean read and forget about it. - When children of school age are asked to read something, chances are they will “read” the assignment and not remember a lot. So, I always tell my kids that when you are asked to read something, you must read, understand, and remember. Reading materials are not given to you for no reason. Eventually, you will be tested on what has been assigned, so the sooner you master the material, the better.
2. Do not put off till next time, what you can do today. – If the deadline for something is say, a week from now, most kids will probably wait for the day before the deadline to finish everything. I always tell my child that it is best to do things early enough. As soon as you have the time, work on your assignment. You never know what might happen which will prevent you from doing it right before the deadline.
3. Repetition is the key to learning and memory work. – Unless you have a photographic memory, chances are you won’t learn everything in one pass or one go. Reading a material once may not be enough. Read and re-read. The more times you read something, the more it will stick in your mind. You may also take notes, or talk to yourself while repeating key information so you will remember better.
