The Doreen Gamboa Fernandez (DGF) Food Writing Award is now accepting entries for this year’s writing contest. The theme for this year is the kakanin or Filipino native cakes. You must write an essay about your favorite kakanin. Raid your refrigerator or your kitchen as you try to recall interesting stories or memories about food like suman, puto, among others.
The essay must be in English, about 4,500-5,000 characters (or 800 words), printed double-spaced on two pages of bond paper. All participants must use a pen name. The essay must be submitted with a separate envelope which contains the following: author’s real name; pen name; residential address and phone number; business address and phone number; and cell phone number.
Deadline for submission of entries is on August 31. You can submit a printed entry, together with a digital copy (i.e. Word or RTF on a disk or CD), as well as your information sheet to: Doreen Gamboa Fernandez Food Writing Award 2006, IWFS Manila Ladies Branch Awards Committee, PRISM, 5th Floor, PDAF Bldg. First prize winner gets P10,000 while the runner-up will win P5,000. Finalists will also get cash prizes. Gift certificates from bookstores, publishing houses, and restaurants, will also be given. Winners will be announced in September 2006.
