I don’t cook. I do know how to call people up and find out about individuals who may be able to provide me with yummy food. In the years that I have been ordering food from different people, there are a few things that suppliers may want to keep in mind to ensure that customers or clients are always happy:
1. Train your order takers: If you must delegate the taking of orders or talking to prospective clients to a person other than yourself (the owner of the food business), please make sure that your order takers are familiar with the products. The last thing you want is for the potential customer to think that he or she is talking to someone who is not knowledgeable about your offerings. Your order takers must also be instructed to talk pleasantly to the caller and not sound gruff or seem like they are in such a hurry to end the call. The customer always likes to feel that he or she is being given importance and full attention. (In the past, I have placed orders for items which turned out to be “not available” or orders which could not be served due to timing.)
2. Update your price and/or product list: This saves both the client and the supplier a lot of time and trouble. If certain items are not always available, it is best to put a notation on your price list so as not to mis-lead the person ordering.
Happy eating! Happy selling!
