When You Are Old

The average life expectancy of a Filipino has now increased to 70 years old. Well and good. Here in the Philippines, extended families abound and so we have grandfathers and grandmothers still living with their growing families. In fact, instead of the “younger” members of the family taking care of the older ones, it is our lolos and lolas (grandfathers and grandmothers) who watch over the young kids and take care of the household while the more active members work or run the business.

In other societies, such may not be the case. It is a reality that different countries and cultures choose to handle older people in various ways. In certain countries, for example, it is usual for older members to live separately from the rest of the family or even live in a place which particularly takes care of those advanced in years.

How do you choose such an establishment to which you can entrust your older relatives and family members? The business of long-term care facilities and services or Senior care is significant in other countries that publications like the Gilbert Guide have been put together to help family members assess, say, a san francisco nursing home. Such publications provide information and reviews of various facilities, saving individuals time spent in searching for a suitable home for their loved ones.

Where there is a need, someone will turn up and fill it. That is the way the market works and keeps establishments on their toes.
