Why Do I Blog?
It used to be called a website or a webpage but now, you hear the term “blog” more often. Blog is short for web log and that’s just what it is — it’s a log (or a collection of writings) on the web or the net. I guess “blogger” sounds more exciting and blog is now a verb that should find its way into the new versions of our dictionary.
Why do I blog or why should you blog? Other than the fact that a blogger most likely enjoys writing, has strong opinions about everything, and actually thinks that his or her opinion makes a difference, there are a few more reasons why you may wish to consider blogging as a hobby, activity, or profession (there are what you call pro bloggers or bloggers who earn a living from their blogs):
1. Share your experiences and knowledge: Every individual has his or her own expertise and experience. Others can benefit from the information that you have — so in effect, you are providing readers value or service. When you recommend a good restaurant or resort or when you warn people about a really bad place, people benefit from your blog. In the past, our blog has helped people/readers plan their trips or vacations; we have provided information to parents with children with Kawasaki Disease and when you know that you have provided assistance to some individual not personally known to you, it can be a great source of fulfillment.
2. Update your relatives and friends: As we are Pinoys, I am sure we all have relatives and friends in different parts of the globe. It is truly great that there is a venue where all our relations and friends can just go to and see what we’ve been up to, view our photos, and just learn about our “over-all state of mind.” Aside from keeping us in touch with people we know, a blog can also help us make new friends. I now keep in touch with individuals I have never met personally but who seem to have common interests just because we crossed paths because of our blog entries.
3. De-stress: A blog is a great way to release tension and relax. Mad or frustrated about something? Just click away at your keyboard. Express your anger or rant about what gets your goat. If you have no one to talk to — talk to the whole world — someone should be able to read your post. A blog can be a tool for lowering your blood pressure by not allowing you to keep your feelings bottled up inside.
So there. Three great reasons to blog. If you’re reading this and do not have a blog yet, maybe you should try it out. As for me, if blogs still exist by the time I’m 80 (and if I get to live that long), you can bet your last piso that I shall be blogging about what will then be known as Philippine history.
