Your Grades Will Not Determine Your Course

Generally, when young people enter college or the university, they most probably will not know yet what it is that they really want to do. When you’re young, I guess, you don’t spend much time, thinking about such serious things.

I took up an Economics degree in college as I got pretty high grades in that subject while in high school. I actually made a choice between Psychology and Economics but finally decided to go with the latter.

Although I really have no regrets about sticking it out with my Economics course, these days I keep wondering what would have happened had I taken up Creative Writing, Journalism, Psychology, or even Education. After working for 18 years, I now realize that am very interested in people, writing, and training.

Still, it’s never too late to start a second career or take up further studies if I really wanted to.

So, when choosing your college course, try to reflect on your interests and the activities that you enjoy rather than the subjects where you are good at and where you got high grades.

Be open to opportunities around you and life will surely take you down the road that is best for you. Detours are allowed and sometimes necessary for us to discover our true calling.
